[Three car makers join in fuel-cell-tech venture]
The Renault-Nissan alliance, Ford Motor Co and Germany's Daimler AG said Monday they are linking up to share the cost of developing fuel-cell vehicle systems that could feature in road cars as early as 2017.
Car makers are racing to develop fuel-cell technology and bring their cars to market to comply with ever-stricter emissions regulations. Fuel-cell electric vehicles produce electricity from hydrogen and oxygen and are emission-free as the only by-product from the process is water vapor....
"The collaboration sends a clear signal to suppliers, policymakers and the industry to encourage further development of hydrogen refueling stations and other infrastructure necessary to allow the vehicles to be mass-marketed," Renault-Nissan, Ford and Daimler said in a statement. .....
