[Korea]KEPCO, pushing towards energy business

Korea Electronic Power Corporation (KEPCO), is concentrating on new energy industry including smart grid, renewable energy, establishing electric vehicle infrastructures, and etc.

February 6th, KEPCO announced that they will try to create $100 billion market and 50 thousands jobs in renewable energy field including domestic and international trade until 2030. KEPCO also comments that new energy business requires cost of early investments is high and is difficult to retrieve the investment in short term so that public energy company like KEPCO has important role in the field.

KEPCO is trying to change its image from typical power transmission and transformation focused business to new energy business that includes smart grid, micro grid, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, renewable energy, and etc.

Also, KEPCO is recently working on developing Gwangju Jeonnam Bitgaram innovative city, where the headquarter will be located, as the center of global renewable energy.

Person at KEPCO added "KEPCO is planning to export a new energy business model to foreign country along with small and medium sized firms and large corporations, and will not only helping reacting to climate changes but also will create jobs and lead creative economy."
